Recently, Technovation Moldova launched its 4th year of participation in the global competition of Technovation Challenge. We hosted a Launch Workshop where teams spent a full day identifying problems in their communities and being introduced to the App Inventor program.

Technovation offers girls around the world the opportunity to learn the necessary skills to emerge as tech entrepreneurs and leaders. Every year, Technovation challenges 10-18 year old girls to build a business plan and mobile app that will address a community problem.

Here in Moldova, over 50 girls and mentors from throughout the country participated in this interactive workshop. Around 10 teams spent the first part of the workshop forming their ideas through SWOT analysis and business model canvas. This year, Technovation has aligned the app idea themes with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Teams from the workshop chose to solve problems in their communities within the themes of education, poverty, and youth development.

The second part of the workshop included an introduction to the App Inventor program where they had the opportunity build an app thanks to the assistance of our tech mentors from YOPESO. The girls were enthusiastic as they learned new skills and were challenged throughout the workshop. We are looking forward to seeing how the teams continue to develop these ideas and apps.

Since 2010, more than 10,000 girls from 78 countries have participated in Technovation. Teams compete regionally and then globally as the Technovation Challenge selects the top finalist teams to go to San Francisco to compete for a cash prize to help them launch their idea and further develop their app.

Moldova has participated in the program since 2014 which we estimate that since then, over 100 girls from Moldova have participated along with over 40 mentors. We are thrilled to be launching the 4th year of this program in Moldova and seeing the positive impact it may have on teams and communities as girls work through developing their ideas and getting an introduction to mobile app development.

Stay tuned for more updates as the season unfolds!
