My first perspective of winter in Moldova

It’s my first winter here in Moldova as a Peace Corps volunteer. Lately, I’ve gotten some questions about the weather and winter in Moldova – so I’ll share a little glimpse of winter-life through my perspective in photos so far.

The center of Balti during the holiday season. Lots of lights and a large Christmas tree in the center.

The huge Christmas tree in the center of town during the day – it was put up a few days before December 25, known as “new Christmas” in Moldova. This was also before it was decorated too.
Part of my walk to work... it's so pretty when it snows in this park.

I coordinated an event during computer education week at our local library here called "Hour of Code" where we introduced beginning coding skills to the community. It was a great event and I learned a lot from it. I even presented what I could in Romanian.

Sometimes you have a little accident in the middle of the intersection at the piata. This was taken one day on my way through the central station in Chisinau to catch a rutiera back to Balti. There was all kinds of commotion and horn honking and then I discovered why. Sad day.

SUNSHINE!?! This is actually a rare occurrence, but there was a day or so in the mix of this winter that brought with it some sunshine. Many people were out and about in the center of town that day.

During the thank you masa for our organization’s partners, I was highly entertained by this, which was placed right in front of me during the meal…

Moldova is so creative when it comes to food creations.
Why hello there, chicken…er, egg… egg chicken… Moldova is so creative when it comes to food creations. This is a whole stuffed chicken with baked apples along the side… and an egg chicken with it’s little ‘nest’.
